RAW Wrestling - Developing raw Talent

Congratulations to the group of wrestlers who attended the Mohawk Valley wrestling tournament. RAW is coming home with the following Freestyle wrestling results:

RAW Wrestling helped out at the Charlottetown Winter Fest by providing the Super Heroes. Here is a picture taken of some of the helpers after the event.

Classes are cancelled from Monday, February 1st to Wednesday, February 3rd due to school activities at Parkdale and at Birchwood.

The next class will be on Thursday, February 4th at Parkdale Elementary school.

Two RAW wrestlers competed at the UNB Open today.

In the under 90 kilo weight category Morgan Ellis wrestled in a tough 5 man Round Robin division that included the current Pan-American Champion, Eric Feneukes. Morgan tied for second place on points and was awarded a Bronze Medal.

In the 90 -130 kilo category, in a large 11 man bracket, Phil Lanthier finished 5th. Missing out on a shot at the Bronze after losing a close match to UNB wrestler Mike MacDonald. MacDonald is from Montague and has both competed for and Coached the Montague Red Rock Team.

I would like to thank the Sogo Active organization. It has helped us towards our goal by providing us a grant to purchase a new wrestling mat.

This grant works for both organizations. As part of the agreement, we are working with Birchwood school to provide wrestling instruction to their students for the next ten weeks.

RAW Wrestling has started a fund raiser in order to purchase some new crash mats. We are offering $2.00 tickets on the chance to win a gift basket of Lady Godiva products. The draw date is scheduled for February 13th, the day before the Valentines.

For those of you who do not know it, Lady Godiva sells premium chocolate products. I plan on buying several tickets myself as my wife will like them a lot.

RAW wrestling is starting a new class for Junior and Senior High school students at Birchwood Elementary school.

Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesdays from 4:30 - 6:00pm.

The cost of the class is $120.00

RAW Wrestling classes are starting on January 5th at Parkdale elementry school gymnasium.

These classes are for males and females ages 8 and up.

The session will cost $120.00 which includes membership in Wrestling PEI. Canada Games training is a four year cycle. The 2009 Canada Games cycle is over this August and it is the time to look at the next set of athletes.

In 2013, athletes are expected to be males and females born in 1995, 1996, 1997, or 1998. There are twelve weight categories, so it is the ideal sport for very small and very large athletes. PEI did not have full male or female teams in 2009. Everyone is encouraged to try out for the next games.

Wrestling is a great off season sport for soccer players, rugby players, football players, and other summer sports.
